Abstract

Basic Sea Survival is a basic marine safety training course aimed at providing knowledge and skills for responding to emergencies in maritime environments. This training is crucial given the high risk of accidents at sea due to adverse weather conditions, high waves, ocean currents, equipment failure, and shipwrecks. This paper discusses the definition of Basic Sea Survival, the benefits and objectives of the training, marine safety equipment, survival techniques and strategies, factors influencing survival at sea, and the psychological aspects of emergencies.

Safety equipment such as life jackets, life rafts, immersion suits, EPIRBs, and flares play a crucial role in increasing a victim's chances of survival. Furthermore, survival techniques such as maintaining composure, using the HELP position, conserving energy, and utilizing emergency signaling devices are key components of self-rescue efforts. Environmental factors, physical condition, mental preparedness, skills, and the availability of safety equipment also significantly influence a person's success at sea.

Psychological aspects are crucial because the ability to control panic, maintain a positive mental attitude, and make sound decisions can increase the chances of survival. By understanding and applying the principles of Basic Sea Survival, a person is expected to be able to increase preparedness, protect themselves, and help others in emergency situations at sea.
